March 9, 1843: A Letter from Robert Murray McCheyne
"Robert Murray McCheyne" by Bonar, Andrew A. |
Robert Murray McCheyne was a Scottish clergyman and missionary.Robert was a preacher, a pastor and a poet. On March 9, 1843, he wrote a letter to a friend who was grieving the loss of a loved one. His words of comfort ring true yet today:
"You will never find Jesus so precious as when the world is one vast
howling wilderness. Then he is like a rose blooming in the midst of the
desolation, a rock rising above the storm."
Robert died an early death at the age of 29, having fallen victim to the Typhus epidemic. His fiancee, Jessie Thain, was brokenhearted till her death.
