Sure, they adopted the resolution a month before, but the signing didn't happen until a month later. Actually, the timeline of the Declaration is fairly complex. This Day in Christian History: February 3 February 3, 1943: The Story Behind Four Chaplain's Day U.S.A.T.  Dorchester February 3, 1943, the American Troopship U.S.A.T. Dorchester sails on its way to Greenland as part of a Navy convoy. During the early morning hours, around 12:55 a.m. a torpeedo from a German U-boat smashes into the bow of the ship. It is clear that the damage is severe as the boilers lose power leaving not even enough steam to sound the whistled command to abandon ship. There was no power to send a distress signal via radio, and no time to launch rockets to alert the escort. Only a portion of the lifeboats were able to launch, and several of them were flipped over as the passengers crammed themselves onto them. During the midst of all this chaos, four men stood out as heroes. George L. Fox (a Methodist minister), Clark Polling (Reformed Church in America Minister),  John P. Washington (a Catholic Priest), and Alexander Goode (Jewish Rabbi) gave up...

Today is the birthday of one of the greatest patriots of the Revolution: Samuel Adams. I have become well acquainted with Sam over the past year, since he became the subject of my short story series on the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. Today, in honor of his birthday, I'm sharing a few interesting facts that I learned about Sam during my research. Samuel Adams was born on September 27th, 1722 in Boston, MA, unless you want to go by the Old-Style date, which would be September 16th. He was one of twelve children, however only three lived past their third birthday. Sam once had a job as a tax collector, but he didn't do well because he couldn't bring himself to force people to pay when they couldn't even afford to feed their families. The government even filed a lawsuit against him for failing to collect. Known as the "Father of the Revolution", Sam was advocating independence long before it was popular, or even acceptable.He was viewed as ...

Thank goodness you asked!! :D Since 1985, Samuel Adams has been known as an alcoholic beverage more than a patriot. It doesn't help that the Sam Adams Lager website claims "Samuel Adams was a Boston firebrand, a revolutionary thinker who fought for independence.
