Author Interview with W. Richard Lawrence

Today I'm blogging over at Stitches Thru Time with an author interview with Richard Lawrence! Here's a sample.


I'm excited to introduce you to one of my long time friends! Richard Lawrence (or Mr. Lawrence as I've known him) and his wife were two of my speech and debate coaches in high school. I knew then that he'd written a whole line of homeschool science curriculum, but I was very excited when I heard that he's recently released a Christian Suspense!

Mr. Lawrence, thanks so much for joining us today! Please tell us a little about yourself.

I live in northern Colorado with my wife, Debbie, who works as my sounding board while I’m putting my fiction stories together. Debbie and I have backgrounds in electrical engineering and have written 12 award winning science books together. We also ran a science supply company for several years. After a publishing company picked up our books we shut down the business. I then decided to try something different, which I have found I really enjoy – writing fiction. I now write complex high-tech stories filled with distrust, deceit, murder, treachery, faith, love and at times, the ultimate sacrifice.
 
I come to the table of writing with a little different background than many authors. I grew up in a military family which means we moved a lot. I spent nine years in Germany and three in Hawaii, plus I have lived in several different states. By the time I was seventeen, I’d lived in seventeen different places. Once I moved out on my own, I worked as a technician in the Army before going to college for Electrical Engineering. After twenty years in the high-tech world of integrated circuits, I left the engineering field and became an author. This background has given me a unique perspective which I believe comes across in my writings.

Cave of the Winds: Historical Colorado Cave & Giveaway! One of the blessings of having out of state family and friends visit, is the opportunity to see the sites in your own area! Earlier in January, we took family to visit Cave of the Winds, which is only about 45 minutes from my home. Fun Facts about Sarah and Angelina Grimke

Today I thought I'd share a couple of interesting tidbits I stumbled upon while researching the lives of these two famous women. Sarah Grimke Meet the Grimke sisters, a pair of ladies who fought for civil rights during the Victorian era. I studied them while writing 12 Sisters Who Changed History, and their lives fascinated me. They were the first female advocates of abolition and women's rights in America. Sarah Grimke was much older than Angelina, however they always shared a special bond. Raised in South Carolina on a plantation, they witnessed slavery first hand and God ignited a fire in their hearts to abolish it. They were pivotal instruments in the anti-slavery movement in America. They even supported President Lincoln in his fight to end slavery during the Civil War. The History of the Emerald: May's Birthstone

On the Heroes, Heroines and History blog, we're talking about the history of the Emerald, May's birthstone. Here's a preview of the article. May is my favorite month. The sights, sounds and smell of Spring as it finally arrives, the baby animals that can be seen all around, the fresh smell of rain on newly growing plant sprouts. It's just a lovely time of year! And it's my birthday month. But that doesn't make me biased at all. ;) I've always been fascinated with the birthstone of May, the emerald. It's a beautiful stone, and one with a rich history. So let's explore where this gem was first discovered, and how it has progressed through time. The first known emeralds were mined in Egypt around 1500 B.C. That's about the time that Moses was being called by God to return to Egypt and free the Israelites from slavery.
